The small town of Royston is located just south of Courtenay on the east side of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.
I have walked the beach in Royston many times. But on this cloudy day I walked on a path that leads north of town. When I turned around, I spotted the clouds forming and reflecting in the water, and I fell in love with this composition.
I went back to my car to get my gear. On returning to this location, I set up my camera and lens on my tripod. After moving around, I decided on the composition you see in this image. At the time of capture, I envisioned it as a Black and White. Once in Lightroom, I could see that I made the right choice.
