The Tevno Ezero shelter was built in 1972 near the lake of the same name in the Northern Pirin mountain range, at an elevation of 8,239 feet (2,512 meters) above sea level. The refuge is situated on the eastern bank of Tevno Ezero, within the Belemeto cirque. There are several starting points for reaching the shelter, including Vihren Hut (7 hours), Bezbog Hut (3 hours and 30 minutes), Demyanitsa Hut (3 hours), and Yane Sandanski Hut (5 hours).

Tevno Ezero Refuge is a large two-story building with a capacity for 30 guests. It features a dining area on the ground floor and a dormitory on the second floor, designed to accommodate hikers exploring the beautiful Pirin Mountains. The shelter operates with its own generator, and drinking water is sourced from a nearby spring located above the refuge. It is part of the European hiking route E-4.

The shelter is surrounded by several peaks, including Kamenitsa, Little Kamenitsa (2,675 meters), Kralev Dvor (2,684 meters), and Valyavisky Chukar (2,642 meters). The highest peak, Kamenitsa, reaches 2,824 meters and is located southeast of the shelter. Although there are no marked trails leading to the summit, it can be easily accessed from the south during the summer season. However, the area surrounding Tevno Ezero Refuge is at high risk for avalanches, which is why it is not managed throughout the winter.

The photo associated with this text was taken at the end of October, when the sun’s path moves southwest, illuminating three peaks surrounding the shelter in a distinctive way.
