Visiting Eilean Donan Castle had been a lifelong dream of mine. The magic and mystique surrounding this iconic landmark had always drawn me in, and I knew I had to see it for myself. In late October, I travelled to Scotland and was welcomed by moody weather, with driving rain at times and swirling mists under brooding clouds.
On the morning of my visit to Eilean Donan, I arrived early to witness the sunrise. Fog hung low over the water, adding drama and atmosphere to the soft morning light. My aim was to create an image that captured the ancient spirit of this place. Although the castle has been rebuilt, I hoped my photograph would still evoke its long and storied history.
The mist helped obscure the modern background, isolating the castle and giving it a timeless feel. Despite the tide being low, there was still enough water for subtle reflections. The textured foreground—with its unexpected elements—added visual layers that enriched the composition. I spent hours watching the fog shift and swirl around the castle, and it turned out to be even more magical than I had imagined.
