Dead Horse Point, located on a bluff across from the Islands in the Sky section of Canyonlands National Park in southeast Utah, is named for a narrow section of the bluff just north of the point, which cowboys used as a natural corral for wild horses.
According to legend, a herd of horses was trapped on the point and, unable to reach the Colorado River two thousand feet below, died of thirst. Whether or not the legend is true is debated.
In any event, it is now part of a state park by the same name and serves as a fantastic location to capture the sunrise as it illuminates the awe-inspiring canyon carved over eons by the river.
I visited there in early 2025 and came away with this and many other images.
