I had been to the Bells a handful of times, and almost every time, there were some sort of stormy weather conditions, which, of course, added to the amazing nature of this area.

My son and I were camping out in Twin Lakes, and he hadn’t been up Independence Pass or to Aspen. So I told him he was in for a treat. We headed up the pass and into Aspen. For most of the drive, it was raining and cloudy. By the time we got to Aspen, it was still raining. However, the weather forecast showed the rain was going to stop soon. My son had also never been to the Maroon Bells, and I decided to add another treat to the trip.

It was still raining the entire drive up to the Maroon Bells. We arrived in the parking area, and the rain mostly stopped. I grabbed my camera and ran over to the lake area. There were daisies everywhere! The clouds were still dropping some moisture, but the rain was very light. Then, an incredible scene showed up in the distance. The “Bells” were not visible the entire drive up, and even when we arrived, they were hiding in the clouds.

I still held out hope. Then the clouds started clearing. The sun started shining through the distant ridge line, and then the Bells. I was pretty excited that my son was able to see the Maroon Bells, and of course, I was able to capture some photos of this incredible scene.
