Visitors can only access this attraction from one side of the cascade, which does not provide a view of the mountains. I received authorisation from the Torres del Paine National Park authorities (CONAF) to stay on the opposite side of Salto Grande for 15 days. Still, that area is inaccessible without a boat.
I camped with a female companion, and we were excited about our stay. I had previously spent a month in this location in 1994, but the equipment available then was not as advanced as it is today. Over the years, I have also improved my photography skills.
During our 15 days there, we experienced around 12 spectacular days with stunning sunrises. However, all the nights were overcast. The only night I managed to take a decent photograph was on the night of this picture, when a few stars were visible. A full moon illuminated the mountains, creating a beautiful scene. To add something unique to the picture, I used a torch to paint the waterfall with red light.
Later, I edited the photo in Photoshop, changing the colour of the reeds to gold to enhance their appeal. The date of the photograph was March 31, 2018, at 11:57 PM under a full moon.
