This return was much needed and had been on my mind for months after witnessing this location in the winter of 2024. I had seen countless images of this beautiful place in other seasons, and I personally wanted to have my own experience.
I aimed to capture it from a unique perspective to showcase its true aura as a natural wonder. This composition felt original; I hadn’t seen it captured this way before, but it felt right to photograph it from Old Woman River. I was honestly more concerned about bears or even moose emerging from the tree line during my trek. Additionally, the vehicles along the Trans Canada Highway added to my worries.
I knew I had only a few minutes to capture this image while the golden light illuminated the old woman. It was a risk worth taking, and the results definitely paid off. I finally captured a unique perspective of this paradise of natural beauty. After taking the shot, I hurried back to my car and returned to the campground, releasing a deep sigh of relief. I immediately wanted to review and work on the image while the moment was still fresh in my mind.
There’s a special feeling at Old Woman Bay; having explored Lake Superior, I can confidently say this is one of those places where you can strongly feel the energy. This place truly has a soul. If you’ve ever been here, I’m sure you can relate to that feeling, too.
