Several mighty mountain ranges crisscross the Indian state of Ladakh. One of them is the Karakoram, which extends in India, Pakistan, China, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. It is the home of the second-highest peak, K2, with a towering height of 8,611 meters (28,251 feet).
Karakoram, in Turkic, means black gravel. The mountain’s unmistakable blackness reflects this. The photo was taken on our trip to Ladakh and Kashmir. The mountain’s immensity truly humbles you.
