In spring of last year, the sky was clear, the air was cold, and there was a magnificent aurora display in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Edmonton, Alberta area, we are far enough north to see quite a bit of aurora activity, and this one was very special.
Three of us headed southeast from Edmonton to escape the city lights and venture into open spaces. Normally, we look to the north or northeast towards magnetic north to see the best displays.
In this case, the image is looking due south at the aurora arch, stretching completely across the sky. I captured eight wide-angle images, starting from looking directly east all the way around to looking directly west. I stitched the images together in Photoshop.
