My wife and I have been on a quest to visit the U.S. National Parks for over a dozen years now. So far, we have been to 57 of the 64 parks. For 2025, we took a trip to California to add Lassen and Redwood parks. While on this trip, we also visited Mt. Shasta, which is not a national park, but we had not been there before.
We arrived at the mountain on a mid-trip afternoon. The weather was good, but the sky was empty. One of the preferred locations that we planned to try was at Lake Siskiyou. The view was good, but the afternoon light was a little flat. We thought it would be better in the morning.
We had an early breakfast and went straight to the lake. Not only was the light better, but there was also a lenticular cloud over the mountain. We stayed there for about two hours, shooting as the conditions changed. As is often the case, one of the early shots was among the best.
