This was my first time in southern Utah, and probably not my last! I had often read about how magical and spectacular the badlands region of this state was, but I wasn’t prepared for such wonders.
At sunset, after a long hike, my guide took me to a canyon where we stood before towering stone pillars lit up by the golden hour light. I loved the sense of space in this place. I am not a professional landscape photographer, but I decided nonetheless to take a shot.
It’s now one of my favorite shots—and, I believe, a good representation of the American Far West and more broadly of the wonderful nature found throughout the USA. It’s a landscape that should be preserved.
