More than 12 years ago, my photo buddy and I visited the so-called False Kiva in Canyonlands National Park on our last afternoon. The sky appeared to be developing beautifully for a sunset shot over Green River Overlook, which was supposed to be a 20-minute walk back to the car, plus a 15-minute drive under normal driving conditions.
The hike out took longer than we anticipated, so I drove the 5 miles or so at truly “breakneck” speed. Luckily, there was no traffic at that time in the park. My buddy Bjorn was white-knuckling it all the way to the overlook!
However, we made it to the spot near the parking lot just as the sky was lighting up. It was very satisfying, and I have great memories of this shot, so I share it as a Wide Vista type image.
