Freezing Oxarafoss, Golden Circle, Iceland

I love capturing intimate landscape images that showcase details just as much as I enjoy photographing expansive vistas. When the opportunity arises, as it did here, I focus on the smaller elements that might get lost in the bigger picture. I ventured right into the freezing scene to see what details I could reveal.

The result shows water flowing between the two sets of “ice beasts” flanking the river. Many people ask me about my choice of aperture for shots. This image isn’t focus stacked; I used an aperture of f/14 to compensate for the slight loss of depth of field at a 70mm focal length. I could have likely used f/11, but since it was snowing heavily and the temperature was frigid, I wanted to ensure I captured a sharp image. I aimed for detail in every aspect of the shot.
