Tissamaharama is very well known for birding, and also for the different owl species found in this area. Near the lake Tissa Wewa, there are a lot of old trees where you can spot the Eastern barn owls. Sometimes, you can find 5 to 6 of them in these trees. It’s during nighttime when they come out from their holes and give a show in the trees.
It’s really fascinating how these owls behave in these trees. For the photographer, it is a kind of feast, but the circumstances are difficult because you need a torch to highlight them. But you have to look out, because these trees are on the edge of the lake, and when you push yourself too much to the edge, you can fall, beware of a crocodile.
