This photo was taken on our first day in the Lofoten Islands of northern Norway, an iconic destination that is especially popular among photographers. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to visit. We were out just before sunrise when this incredible scene presented itself along the roadside. Is it possible to witness such a magnificent sunrise and not want to share it with others? How miraculous it is that such beauty exists!
The temperature was around -10°F, while the Norwegian Sea, being about 50°F warmer, created steam in the bitterly cold conditions. As the sun rose, it illuminated the mist along the fjord. Unfortunately, that was the last we saw of the sun for several days!
