I spent a few days on the shores of the Biebrza River and its marshlands. This area is usually a paradise for ornithologists and nature photographers. In the spring, most of the expansive flat river valley is underwater, hosting dozens of bird species and various mammals.
However, due to a major drought this year following a snowless winter, the region looks quite different. There is no water, the peat bogs are dry, and the usual sounds of wildlife are noticeably absent. Despite this, the landscape remains beautiful, featuring numerous river bends and small mineral islands with trees situated amid the wide flatlands.
