Dushantsi dam is a large hydrotechnical facility built in 1968 – 1970 on the Topolnitsa river banks. It is located about 7 km southeast of the town of Pirdop and about 2 km from the village of Dushantsi at the foot of Sredna Gora, 776 m above sea level at the wall. Its waters are used mainly for industrial needs.

The greatest depth of the dam is 45.1 m, and in length the reservoir reaches over 12 km and covers an area of 942 hectares. A convenient asphalt road leads to it, and the terrain around the dam with its extensive meadows is a preferred place for summer vacations. It is not uncommon during July and August to see small tent camps built here for tourists from the capital and nearby villages.

In winter, the dam’s waters are covered with thick ice, and the facility is suitable for fishing under the ice. Dushantsi Dam is the base of the national canoeing team. There is a hotel-restaurant and a Finnish-type sauna right next to the shore. The place is a starting point for tourist hikes to Koprivshtitsa station, Klimash peak (1342 m above sea level), and the town of Koprivshtitsa.

The dam offers the most beautiful view of the ridge of the Balkan Mountain, after which the Balkan Peninsula is named. Its waters reflect the peaks of Paskal, Kositsa, Buluvanya, Tetevenska Baba, Stara Planina Konche, Bratanitsa, and Vezhen.
