While tracking monsoonal thunderstorms through Arizona’s Superstition Mountains, I witnessed a fleeting convergence of power and color. A vibrant rainbow arced across the desert sky just as a towering wall of dust advanced toward us, driven by fierce outflow winds. The calm between gusts lasted only moments.

Working quickly to secure my tripod before the next blast of wind arrived, I managed to capture several frames of this dramatic contrast—fragile light suspended against an approaching storm. In that brief window, the Sonoran Desert revealed both its volatility and its beauty, a reminder that even in the harshest conditions, moments of unexpected brilliance can emerge.
