Some locations and some mountains can become so famously (and beautifully) photographed that when you get there, it is difficult to imagine how to get out of the box and try approaching the location from a different angle. How can you change the focal point to something seemingly less attractive when one subject is so clearly dominant and positively imposing?

In this instance, it took quite a bit of time to walk around Stokksnes (Vestrahorn mountains) in Iceland and completely abandon familiar composition ideas and concepts. Luckily, a small pond (or more like a puddle) gave away an idea to use a reflection as a dominant composition element and, in the process, completely change the scale relation between the elements in the photograph. Also, there was a small matter of making the shot in time to catch that beautiful sunrise light.
