In this photograph, I try to turn my lens toward the quiet drama unfolding on the surface of a frozen pond as winter begins its slow retreat. The image captures the delicate transition between seasons – a shifting boundary where ice thins and light begins to soften the land. My framing is almost abstract, yet undeniably grounded in place: a wash of pale blue and white meets the darker textured ice, pocked by small melt pools and scattered leaves. These subtle details act as quiet markers of time and change.

Resisting the panoramic impulse, I chose to isolate a modest scene and invite the viewer into a state of contemplative attention. My framing favours intimacy and texture over scale. The result, hopefully, is a meditative image that speaks to the fragility of natural cycles and the beauty of in-between states—moments when nothing much seems to happen, yet everything is subtly shifting.
