This photo was taken on the berth breakwater of Puerto de las Nieves harbour, located near the small town of Agaete on the rugged northwest coast of Gran Canaria. It was captured 15-20 minutes before sunrise. During those early hours, the ocean was calm, the air was fresh, and I was the only person on the breakwater.

Initially, I aimed to photograph the sunrise. However, the atmosphere around me inspired a new idea for the image: to compare two shapes. The shape of the breakwater in the foreground resembles the Dragon’s Tail cliff formation in the background. While both shapes share similarities, their sharpness differs. The fog was so dense that morning that it dissipated just 15 minutes after sunrise.

As a photography enthusiast, I have been a big fan of the Canary Islands, visiting them almost every year for over twenty years. This trip was my first since the COVID-19 lockdown, and I felt as though I was rediscovering familiar places.
