Anza-Borrego Desert, the largest state park in California, is a two-hour drive from my home. I went there (3/10/26) specifically to shoot what was supposed to be a ten-year super bloom. I have never seen one.
While a fair bit short of “super,” the bloom was still lovely. The ground was not covered with a carpet of flowers as I’d hoped, so I shot up close from a low point of view to fill in some of the gaps.
The sun was high, as you can see, because of my time constraints, so no golden hour—but a nice hour nevertheless. Maybe next year I can catch an eleven-year super bloom.
