This ancient aqueduct on the island of Sao Miguel (Azores) used to supply the island’s capital with water from mountain springs a couple of centuries ago. Over time, new plumbing technologies emerged, and the aqueduct was abandoned. It is now unused and completely overgrown with moss.

During my visit, the fog was so thick that the aqueduct was not visible until you got very close to it. Although the aqueduct is located in a mountainous area, the surrounding fields are thoroughly watered. It was very windy and cold that morning, and although my hands quickly became cold and my feet got wet, the mystery of this place captivated me so much that I could not stop taking pictures.
