Recently, I found a beautiful maple tree in my close vicinity. I planned to capture its beauty at sunset. Here is the link.
Looking at this natural marvel, I asked myself how I could photograph this tree very early in the morning, when the sun would be in the opposite direction.
For the first time, I planned to use an ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) technique to add dynamism and creativity to the scene.
On location, I set my camera with my wide-angle lens on the tripod. I put a 6-stop ND filter on the lens to perform a long exposure. I framed the scene at 36mm; I focused on the middle of the tree.
At F/4, to obtain a perfect exposure, I had to overexpose by 2 stops (ETTR technique). With such a setting, the exposure time would be 8 seconds.
When I pressed the shutter for the first 4 seconds, I let the camera capture the global scene. For the last 4 seconds, I gently zoomed out from 36mm to 18mm.
This technique creates a striking effect.
