Exploring the remote Westfjords of Iceland by bicycle offers an intimate, slow-paced connection with the rugged coastal topography. Cycling along the winding shores of the fjord outside Ísafjörður into the secluded Tungudalur valley, the roar of falling water echoed across the quiet, birch and lupine-covered hillsides, leading me to this unnamed mountain stream.

What drew my lens to this secluded scene was the uninterrupted fluid geometry of the cascade. The rushing stream creates a continuous, dynamic S-curve leading line that starts right in the immediate foreground and snakes upward through lush green valley moss and blooming purple Alaskan Lupines, guiding the eye all the way up to the main upper waterfall drop nestled against the basalt cliffs. This image captures the pristine, solitary beauty of Iceland’s subarctic summer—a moment where quiet exploration meets the timeless energy of mountain runoff shaping the Westfjords landscape.
