Standing in the quiet late afternoon at Mission San Jose in San Antonio, I was struck by how centuries of human history and craftsmanship could be reduced to a pure, rhythmic conversation between sunlight and stone. As the low evening sun cut across the courtyard, it cast sharp, diagonal shadow bars across the gravel walkway, transforming the archways into a powerful visual funnel.
My goal was to capture not just the physical architecture, but the overwhelming sense of perspective and momentum drawing the viewer down the corridor. I chose a black-and-white presentation to strip away color distractions, allowing the micro-textures of the hand-carved limestone and the deep contrast of the repeating shadows to drive the eye toward the quiet terminus at the end of the hall. To me, this image is a meditation on time and direction—a reminder of how ancient structures still guide our vision and spirit toward a focal point of peace.
