On my first visit to this location on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, I was immediately drawn to the small, tree-covered island. I spent time scouting the shoreline earlier in the day, searching for a viewpoint that would reveal both the character of the landscape and, most importantly, the movement of the sea.
I returned later in the afternoon as the tide rolled in. From the location I had chosen, each incoming wave formed a sweeping leading line through the frame, carrying the eye toward the island beneath a dramatic coastal sky. Capturing the image became an exercise in patience and timing—waiting for the water, light, and landscape to briefly come together.
To me, this image is about resilience. The island appears exposed yet steadfast, shaped by the forces surrounding it without being diminished by them. The photograph reminds me that sometimes strength is simply the ability to remain grounded while everything around us is in motion.km
