In July 2012, I traveled to the beautiful Nova Scotia Province. I had in mind to drive on the marvelous Cabot Trail.
The Cabot Trail is a 298-kilometer (185-mile) scenic loop around the northern tip of Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. It winds through dramatic coastal views, rugged mountains, and the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, making it one of North America’s top road trips.
For me, this trail is a visual paradise! It was my third trip to this location!
At this location, there was a belvedere with an amazing view. I was captivated by the lines created by the coastline, the road down below, the mountains, and forests beneath the beautiful clouds. For me, the little piece of road down below was an important visual element. It forces my eyes to follow it to try to figure out what the next landscape surprise will be!
Handheld, I framed the scene at 58 mm. I also considered the scene’s dynamic range. I was afraid of not being able to seize the full dynamic range. I did not take a chance! I set the camera to capture three bracketed exposures with two-stop intervals. Later, I merged the files in Lightroom to produce a single HDR file.
Once again, I was proud to have noticed this beautiful scene while driving and, most importantly, to have my camera with me to capture nature’s beauty.
