In June 2024, I went scouting in the Quebec Eastern Townships region to capture its beauty.
That day, I only carried my camera with my all-purpose 24-200mm lens. As I passed this location on Gore Road, the scenery amazed me. I parked on the side of the road, took my camera, and stood in front of the car, safely away from the local traffic. I was captivated by the forms and colors in the valley below, surrounded by mountains beneath the beautiful clouds. For me, the road is an important visual element. It forces my eyes to follow it to try to find beautiful sights. Also, it draws my view to the distant, beautiful background.
Handheld, I framed the scene at 114mm. To ensure a perfect exposure, I deliberately overexposed the image by 1 stop using the ETTR technique. For the composition, I roughly applied the rule of thirds, dedicating the upper third to the beautiful sky and the remaining two-thirds to the mountains and valley. I set the road on the left third.
Once again, I was proud to have noticed this beautiful scene while driving and, most importantly, to have my camera with me to capture nature’s beauty.
