Golden Foggy Morning, St Thomas Church, Ratece, Slovenia

This is my third trip to Slovenia. This particular location is the most iconic and picturesque landscape that many landscape photographers highly seek. The church sits on a hilltop surrounded by the breathtaking Alps, with multiple layers in the background creating a perfect backdrop. With the right lighting and conditions, the entire scene can be heavenly. On my previous two trips, I didn’t encounter the conditions I was looking for. I wanted the valley to be filled with fog, with the church as the main subject during sunrise. On this particular morning, we drove out in the dark, and as we got closer, I noticed the fog surrounding the houses and trees. My heart raced; I thought, “This is it: the fog I’ve been waiting for!” When we arrived at the scene, the valley was already filled with fog and the sky was clear—exactly as I had imagined it so many times.

During the busy seasons, over 100 photographers can line up along the narrow road. But this morning, there was no one there besides our own group. The local guide said it’s almost impossible for no photographers to be there on a single morning. But it happened! We had this breathtaking, stunning scenery all to ourselves, with the exact conditions I had been hoping for for many years!

This picture means a lot to me because it shows my persistence eventually paid off when I didn’t give up hope!
