Venice is a photographer’s dream and one of the world’s most photographed cities. Yet, if you visit in the winter, you will discover a Venice transformed by fog, mist, soft winter light, and quiet streets.

Exploring on foot and using the local water buses, we will be looking for Venice beyond the postcard, as well as photographing the city’s most famous landmarks. We will seek to capture not just the incredible architecture and iconic waterways, but also the city’s quieter corners and canals. There are photographs everywhere. Sometimes it is the play of light and shadow in a small side street, sometimes a gondola bobbing in the water or a lone figure crossing a bridge as the morning mist lifts, or you may find yourself capturing the market traders at work in the centuries-old Rialto Market. If you are looking for variety, Venice offers it in abundance.

• Venice at dawn and dusk: Empty streets, silent canals, and that beautiful early-morning light reflecting from the water and glorious buildings.
• The Grand Canal: Magnificent palaces, elegant architecture, and constantly changing reflections providing endless possibilities for creative compositions.
• St. Mark’s Square and the waterfront: Venice’s iconic landmarks photographed in the soft, atmospheric light of early morning and evening.
• The quieter canals: Away from the main tourist routes, discover intimate scenes of bridges, doorways, boats, and centuries-old buildings reflected in still water.
• Burano: Colorful houses, canals, and fishing boats offering a completely different palette and countless opportunities for graphic and abstract compositions.
• Pellestrina and the Venetian Lagoon: A chance to experience a much quieter side of the Venetian landscape, with fishing villages, boats, lagoon views, and atmospheric coastal scenes. Perfect for minimalist captures and long exposures.
