During winter months, Reflection Lake freezes over, remaining ice-bound until late spring (and sometimes early summer). As the lake thaws, leads begin to develop in the covering ice, slowly, over a number of weeks, revealing the reflection of Mount Rainier (Mount Tahoma) that draws large numbers of visitors to this spot. On this particular evening, a glorious sunset lit up the sky with magentas, pinks, and blues, all reflected in the emerging water and remaining ice.
