In 1938, Ansel Adams created a classic image called ‘Thundercloud over Lake Tahoe.’ After much sleuthing, I discovered that it was taken near my home in Incline Village! I wrote an article describing the process for Nevada Magazine. Someday, I hope to have the spot named after him, with a plaque describing the scene.
If you stop at the Ansel Adams Overlook, you can scramble down to the water in a number of different ways. It can be particularly dicey in winter, when the rocks can be coated with ice.
I no longer remember what concept I had when I came down this way. Once I saw the icicles, everything else flew out the window. I underexposed by one stop and did not touch the saturation.
