After moving to a new home on Vancouver Island from our home of 30 years on Salt Spring Island here in the Pacific Northwest, I have spent many hours tracking all the different wildlife I see in our new neighbourhood.
In early spring, while looking for warblers along the Holland Creek Trail just a few minutes away from our house, I heard the familiar buzzing wings of a hummingbird nearby. There, perched carefully between the thorns of a blackberry bush cane, was a tiny male Rufous Hummingbird who let me take a few photos before he zipped away with a sprinkling of pollen on his bill!
