Perched at an altitude of 4,250 metres, Pangong Tso is one of Asia’s largest high-altitude brackish lakes, stretching approximately 135 kilometres across the India–China border. Reached after a five- to six-hour drive from Leh via the dramatic landscapes of Ladakh and Chang La Pass (5,360 metres), the lake is renowned for its shifting colours and expansive vistas.

During the brief summer months, its shores attract thousands of visitors each day. Yet, as evening approaches and most travellers begin their return journey, a quieter atmosphere settles over the landscape. Captured with a long exposure at sunset, this photograph reveals a different palette, as the fading light transforms the mountains and lake into soft gradients of gold, amber, and blue, offering a serene glimpse of why Pangong Tso is often regarded as one of the most extraordinary landscapes in the Himalayas.
