From an overlook high up in the mountains of southwest Colorado, the interplay of sun, storm, light, and shadow put on an amazing show for the entire afternoon. I watched it all unfold, completely unaware of how long I had been there. The changing scene, magical mountain air, and stunning visuals were intoxicating.
Numerous rainbows appeared that competed with the colorful carpet of aspens blanketing the beauty before me. Could such a scene have been matched anywhere else on Earth at that moment?
I composed a number of images as the rainbows changed intensity and location within the frame. I used a polarizer, which easily doubled their intensity in-camera. It helped achieve a look that editing couldn’t have accomplished.
