TJ, the largest male Elephant in Kenya, was in musth. Musth causes the secretion of a fluid from a gland next to the Elephant’s eye, seen as a dark patch. This is the time when they start looking for a mate. As it turns out, the process is long and tedious. He may be turned away by the females in a group, leaving him no choice but to try his luck with a different group.
