Salt Grass Crescents, Near Tatio Geysers, Atacama Desert, Chile

There are several viewpoints along the road between San Pedro de Atacama and the Tatio Geysers. We stopped at this one the morning after the first early autumn snowfall (February 2026), hence the fresh dusting of white on the tops of the volcanoes in the Andes range that marks the border between Chile and Bolivia. I was equally intrigued by the crescent-shaped formations of hardy salt grass, which seemed to be doing just fine at 4,000+ meters elevation.
