Sossusvlei is a salt and clay pan surrounded by high sand dunes in the southern Namib Desert. It is among the most famous attractions in Namibia.
I traveled there at dawn and climbed one of the huge sand dunes shortly after to catch the sunrise. From the top of the dune, I looked across the desert toward the rising sun. I composed this image using a small side ridge of the dune as a leading line into the desert plain and mountains to the east.
I took several images with different aperture settings to create various “star” effects and lens flare with the sun, and selected this image at a wide aperture to avoid lens flare.
