During a hot air balloon ride over the Dubai desert, your gaze is drawn to the distance. The Dubai skyline is very impressive, especially when the sun sets. However, the desert is also fantastic for nature photographers. Mountains on the horizon, camels and wild gazelles below you, and the peace and quiet to take it all in. Because sometimes you just have to enjoy the adventure you are experiencing.
When I looked down, it became clear that the desert is not really untouched. Fences around the limited nature reserves and private grounds. It is clear that there is wealth in the Emirates when you see a fenced-off area with a landscaped pond in the middle of the desert.
However, the camera was working overtime again, moving in all directions. After all, that balloon lands faster than you would like. Several times I looked straight down and was sometimes disappointed by the many lines that cars had made in the sand, or by other human influences. But of course, it wasn’t all negative.
Several times I saw animal tracks, and the gazelles are certainly interesting when you see that they are not really bothered by a high platform above their heads. And because the landscape below me was constantly changing, I felt that the patterns in the sand also deserved some attention.
I have no idea how high I was hovering above the desert at this moment, but the rows of dunes, the patches of vegetation, and the few surviving trees make this sand pattern something special to look at, in my opinion.
