Some Small Island, Courtenay, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada

I often drive the logging roads looking for something different. On this September day, I saw an interesting composition and stopped my car to have a better look. Here I am, standing on a mountainside on the east side of Vancouver Island, looking across the Strait of Georgia at the coast of western British Columbia.

As I viewed the scene before me—the small islands, the inlet, backed by the rugged coastal mountain range, all covered in shades of blue—I knew I had to capture this image.

I walked around until I found the best location to show off the beauty of this scene. Then I put my camera on the tripod, looked through the live view to adjust the composition, and adjusted my camera settings as needed to give me the image I was hoping for.
