Raw natural beauty in the dead of winter.
As soon as I stepped out of my car, I was greeted by an adult bald eagle flying directly above me, making its way to the lake. The high winds along the North Shore were brutal, but there were zero signs of that here. The winds had died down, and I felt a major sense of peace.
It’s been a while since I’ve seen Hollow Rock under winter conditions, and I was excited to get back and capture the moment. The blue ice stood out under the morning light as the sky became rather moody yet calm.
I took my time composing this image to capture a sense of winter along the North Shore. Lake Superior has this transforming vibe it brings during the winter months. Yes, it can be brutally cold, but there’s such a charm to experiencing the scenery in person.
