We had an unusually long fall in Colorado last year. I was able to make this hike happen because, while there was rain in the forecast, it didn’t appear to be long-lasting. I set out to make my way up to Lake Helene in Rocky Mountain National Park and was getting splattered intermittently along the way.
I only saw one person along the trail as I made my way up, and as I rounded the corner toward Lake Helene, I caught my first glimpse of Notchtop Mountain. As if I had planned it, the clouds gave way and I saw some light on the peak, which made my day because the mountain had been in the clouds as I approached.
On my way back down, I decided to hit the 2 Rivers Lake just below Lake Helene, and that is where I found my favorite reflections of the day.
