Last October, on a completely clear night with mild temperatures and a perfectly still atmosphere, I sat gazing at the sky. The stars seemed static (and they were), but the Earth was moving, rotating on its axis. If we could focus our attention entirely on the sky, perhaps we could see how rapidly it changes throughout the night.
I placed my Hasselblad on a sturdy tripod and took 24 successive images, each with a 23-second exposure. The images were superimposed, and this was the result. The small bush in the foreground remained perfectly still! What a marvellous autumn sky.
