The joy of living near Yosemite National Park (LA) is that it allows me the opportunity to enjoy and experience the beauty of Yosemite through different climates as well as different moods. Having been a large format black-and-white photographer, I always tend to appreciate locations in color as well as black and white.
Although this image location is very popular and frequently photographed, I personally have memories of the times I have been in Yosemite and the various weather conditions I have experienced at this particular location. Each photograph brings back a different memory and/or experience. I once heard the expression that a color photograph tells you what it was like to be there, but a black-and-white photograph tells you how you felt when you were there.
This black-and-white image accentuates the power and magnificence of the location, as well as the clarity and purity that existed that day. Thus, to me, the black-and-white image is more powerful than the color image. Being able to ‘pre-visualize’ a photograph opens up opportunities for creativity.
