The Faroe Islands are known for their mountains and cliffs that plunge into the surrounding ocean. Gasadalur, a village perched above an ocean-side waterfall, is one of the most famous scenes in the Faroes. It has become very popular among tourists due to images shared on social media.

I traveled to the Faroes in October when there are fewer tourists, and the ground cover shifts from summer green to autumnal gold. The sun also stays lower on the horizon during October, creating extended golden hours. I timed my visit to Gasadalur for the late afternoon when the light turned golden, but before the waterfall was cast into shade.

The sky was mostly cloudy, but fortunately, there were breaks in the clouds flowing swiftly overhead while I was there. The light on this scene changed minute by minute. I marveled at the shadows and light that danced across the landscape in front of me. I captured many images of this scene with the shifting clouds and light.

I also took some images with longer exposures to accentuate the lines of the waterfall and smooth the ocean waves. I chose this image as the best among all my captures.
