A Silversword bush stands in stark contrast to the rocky volcanic landscape. In the distance, the Haleakala crater rises above fluffy clouds on the Pacific Ocean right after sunset.
The Silversword is found only on the summit of Haleakala in Maui. It can live from 20 to 90 years and grows slowly until it finally blooms in a towering display of hundreds of flowers and colors.
And then it dies, scattering its seeds to the wind.
