Lauterbrunnen Valley (Bern, Switzerland), located at the foot of the Bernese Alps, is a magical place. It is a combination of towering mountain peaks, such as the Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau, evergreen pastures where dairy cows graze happily, and farms where excellent quality cheese is produced.
Extremely steep limestone precipices form the edges of the valley. Streams descending from the mountains, upon reaching the verge of the valley walls, create cascades that are almost lost in spray when they reach the base.
Although it is a major tourist destination, when I visited the site last September, I had no difficulty passing quietly and alone, enjoying wide, open views to take photos like the one I am now presenting.
I was particularly impressed by the drama of the clouds in the sky. Three images taken side by side were stitched together to obtain this panorama. The camera was in manual mode and mounted on a tripod. Post-processing was minimal.
