On the 3rd day of an 11-day trip with friends, touring and photographing the national park. In the southwest USA, we visited the Grand Canyon. The drive from Sedona was very interesting. The varied topographies along Route 89A were amazing. I have never seen so much change in a landscape in just a 2.5-hour trip.

We came to the canyon through Grand Canyon Village on the south rim. Since it was a Sunday, there were many tourists at the main viewing platform, but we found that a short walk along the Bright Angle Trail let us get away from most of the crowds.

We took the shuttle bus to Pima Point to wait for the sunset over the west end of the canyon. As the sun set in the west, the almost full moon rose in the east. It was hazy along the horizon, so we did not see the moon until it was well above the horizon.
