The Siena area is my favourite destination. Although I have always lived on the Tuscan coast, I often vacationed in the Val d’Orcia because my uncle lived there. I don’t recall the exact time this photo was taken, but I clearly remember waking up at dawn and heading home when I looked back towards Pienza and saw this breathtaking scene.
We frequently pass by the same places, but we only truly appreciate them when they are illuminated by the sun. That’s what happened in this photograph, which has become quite popular over the years.
